Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has called for his team to maintain discipline and stay focused ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.

Following a slow start to their campaign, Nigeria are under pressure to secure victories in their upcoming matches against Lesotho and Benin Republic.

These fixtures are now seen as essential for reviving their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup and also hope other results go their way.

Nigeria are currently third in their group, behind Benin in first and South Africa in second, with just three points between them.

What Ekong said
Speaking before the match, Troost-Ekong acknowledged Lesotho’s strong performance in the group so far and cautioned against underestimating them.

“We’re approaching this the same way we approached the game against South Africa. It’s important for us to go for all three points,” the defender stated.

“We have to show Lesotho respect—they’ve done well in the group and have picked up points against us also. So, yeah, it’s going to be an important game for both of us.”

“We’ve just been focused on our preparation. Like the coach said, we had two very good training sessions today and the third one here. We’re looking forward to the game tomorrow.”

The Super Eagles have set up their training camp in South Africa, with key players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi expected to feature prominently.

As the pressure to qualify intensifies, Troost-Ekong’s warning serves as a critical reminder that no opponent can be taken for granted at this decisive stage of the campaign.
