It is within this spirit of service, responsibility, and commitment to national development that distinguished Project Management Leader and accomplished Oil & Gas professional, Onuoha Ikenna James, formally declares his intention to contest for the Senate seat representing Imo East Senatorial District.
With over 19 years of proven professional experience in the Oil & Gas industry, including 17 years of impactful service with ExxonMobil Nigeria, Onuoha Ikenna James brings into public service a rare combination of global exposure, strategic leadership, technical excellence, and result-oriented management experience.
His decision to answer the call to serve is inspired by a deep passion for the people of Imo East Senatorial District and a sincere desire to contribute meaningfully toward building a prosperous, economically viable, secure, and progressive society where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.
According to him, “Our people deserve purposeful representation that goes beyond politics as usual. They deserve leadership that understands development, values accountability, promotes inclusion, and possesses the competence to attract opportunities and deliver sustainable results.”
An accomplished engineer and project management expert, Onuoha Ikenna James obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Petroleum Engineering with Second Class Upper Division from the University of Port Harcourt and later earned a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree from Heriot-Watt University, UK.
Over the course of his career, he has successfully led and managed major multi-billion-dollar projects, including landmark projects such as the Erha Field Development Project, the Qua Iboe Power, and the EAP IGE Replacement Project.
His expertise covers the full project lifecycle — from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and start-up of highly complex offshore and brownfield projects. He is also widely respected for his capacity to coordinate multiple stakeholders including government regulatory agencies, industry partners, international contractors, and technical teams while maintaining safety, quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.
Beyond technical accomplishments, Onuoha Ikenna James has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation, local content development, operational efficiency, and youth empowerment. He has championed initiatives that promoted indigenous participation in critical projects and facilitated first-time-in-Nigeria fabrication and engineering achievements.
His professional excellence earned him the prestigious ExxonMobil Advanced Skills Milestone Recognition in Project Management — a testament to his dedication, discipline, and leadership capacity.
Speaking further on his aspiration, Onuoha Ikenna James emphasized that the people of Imo East Senatorial District deserve representation that prioritizes development and places the welfare of citizens at the center of governance.
“My aspiration is driven by the desire to create opportunities for our youths, empower women, support entrepreneurs, improve education, strengthen healthcare delivery, facilitate infrastructure development, and promote economic growth throughout Imo East Senatorial District,” he stated.
He stressed the urgent need to bridge the gap between government and the people through transparent leadership, effective legislation, constructive engagement, and people-centered policies capable of addressing the socio-economic challenges confronting the region.
According to him, the future of Imo East lies in harnessing the enormous potential of its people through education, innovation, industrial growth, technology, agriculture, skills acquisition, and strategic investments capable of creating sustainable jobs and improving living standards.
