By A Concerned Stakeholder of Cross River Central
One would have ignored the laughably pedestrian and intellectually anorexic write-up authored by one “OMO-Epe” but for the dangerous falsehoods, revisionist history, and insulting distortions deliberately concocted to malign the towering political stature of Distinguished Senator Eteng Jonah Williams.
Silence in the face of such orchestrated mendacity would amount to cowardice and complicity. Let it be stated unequivocally and with every ounce of political candor: Senator Eteng Williams is not merely another politician in Cross River Central Senatorial District; he is, beyond contestation, the most formidable grassroots political institution the district has produced in recent history. His popularity is neither fabricated by social media propagandists nor inflated by rented praise singers. It is organic, tested, validated and repeatedly reaffirmed at the polls. The desperate attempt to portray Senator Williams as a beneficiary of political manipulation is both dishonest and historically fraudulent. Did OMO-Epe conveniently forget that Senator Eteng Williams won his 2022 primaries TWICE? The first exercise was challenged by aggrieved aspirants, and rather than hide under party bureaucracy, a fresh exercise was conducted. What happened? He defeated them again resoundingly and overwhelmingly.
That singular political reality permanently destroyed the tired narrative that his emergence was a “gift” from the establishment.
A man who wins twice under intense scrutiny cannot be called unpopular except by those suffering from chronic political hallucinations.
It is therefore astonishingly hypocritical for those who celebrated manipulated outcomes yesterday to suddenly sermonize about “party supremacy” today, especially when the so-called primaries conducted in Ikom on the 18th of May were drenched in opacity, procedural violations, exclusionary tactics and brazen manipulations that have shocked even neutral observers within the APC hierarchy.
This was not a primary election. It was a disgraceful theatrical production hurriedly assembled to impose a predetermined outcome.
Senator Eteng Williams, being a democrat with courage and political sophistication, has every constitutional, moral, and political right to reject such electoral brigandage. Only political slaves and cowards accept injustice in silence. History does not celebrate those who kneel before impunity; it honors those who resist it.
The insulting comparison between Senator Eteng Williams and Hon. Oden Ewa further exposes the intellectual bankruptcy of the writer. With due respect, Hon. Oden Ewa remains a political rookie attempting to wear oversized garments stitched by propaganda merchants. Governance is not a social media photoshoot. Leadership is not sustained by digital optics and carefully curated Facebook narratives.
Senator Eteng Williams has built an intimidating record of practical and measurable impact across the Central Senatorial District. Through the PTDF scholarship intervention alone, he opened unprecedented local and international educational opportunities for countless young people across the district, opportunities that many families never imagined possible. The beneficiaries are living witnesses, not fictional characters created for online applause.
Beyond scholarships, Senator Williams has facilitated employments for numerous indigenes across federal institutions and agencies, empowered communities, supported businesses, intervened in countless personal and communal crises, and maintained a level of accessibility uncommon among contemporary politicians. The people know this. That is why, despite the orchestrated manipulations in Ikom, the streets remain restless and the grassroots remain defiant.
No volume of sponsored articles can erase the emotional and political connection between Senator Eteng Williams and the masses.
Those arrogantly celebrating this deeply flawed exercise should understand a fundamental political truth: legitimacy cannot be manufactured through conspiracy. A stolen mandate does not become popular simply because propagandists write verbose articles defending it.
Equity, justice, and political sanity demand that the national leadership of the APC must urgently intervene and correct this monumental injustice before irreversible damage is done to party cohesion in Cross River Central. To ignore the genuine grievances surrounding the Ikom exercise would amount to rewarding impunity and punishing popularity.
The APC must decide whether it wishes to stand with transparent democratic culture or surrender itself to the dangerous precedent of backroom manipulations orchestrated against a sitting Senator whose political influence dwarfs that of his traducers.
Cross River Central is not blind. The people know who stood with them. The people know who has consistently delivered. The people know who can win elections overwhelmingly.
And most importantly, the people know the difference between genuine political capital and synthetic popularity manufactured on social media timelines.
Senator Eteng Jonah Williams does not need lectures on party loyalty from individuals whose political relevance fluctuates with every passing administration. He has paid his dues, earned his place, and built his popularity through years of direct engagement with the people. This fight, therefore, is not merely about one man. It is about defending democratic integrity against arrogant political adventurism disguised as party supremacy. History will be kind to those who stood for justice and merciless to those who attempted to subvert it.
