The Federal Ministry of Education has marked a significant milestone in its journey towards excellence and accountability with the official launch of Performance Management System (PMS) Day on Thursday, December 5, . The event, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, heralded a new era of efficiency and transparency in service delivery.
Speaking at the launch, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Nasir Sani- Gwarzo emphasized the transformative impact of the PMS initiative. “This is not just a ceremonial milestone but a pivotal moment to foster accountability, excellence and innovation in our Ministry. The PMS initiative underscores the alignment of individual goals with organizational objectives, enabling measurable progress and the recognition of efforts. Let this launch inspire us to enhance our performance and improve the quality of education in Nigeria,” he stated, while officially inaugurating PMS Day.
The Director of Human Resources, Mr Omotayo Adeyemi in his address, highlighted PMS as one of the six pillars of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP-25). “Our goal is to create a high-performance culture where employees are motivated by clear goals and transparent evaluation processes. Today’s launch signifies our commitment to a future where continuous learning, growth, and excellence are the hallmarks of our Ministry,” he said, expressing gratitude to the Permanent Secretary and the PMS Core Team for their unwavering support.
Mr. Obi Edward, representing the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, commended the Ministry for its proactive compliance with directives and commitment to institutionalizing Performance Management System Day ( PMSD). He reiterated the broader purpose of PMS as a global strategy to enhance productivity, reduce redundancy, and reward performance. “The branded T-shirts and caps are symbols of your enthusiasm, but beyond that, let us focus on effective implementation. PMSD is about aligning individual objectives with organizational goals and fostering a culture of excellence,” he remarked, urging all staff to fully embrace the initiative.
The Performance Management System (PMS) constitutes the second pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP-25). It took effect on January 1, 2023, and adopts a whole-of-government approach. PMSD, to be observed every Thursday, ensures active compliance with performance management activities, linking institutional and employee performance for improved service delivery.
As the Ministry takes bold steps towards sustainable performance management, this launch signifies a unified commitment to delivering high-quality, efficient, and responsive services to the Nigerian populace.
