The family of the late Dr. Emeka Flemin Okengwu, in collaboration with the National Coordinating Committee, has held a Service of Songs in honour of the distinguished development economist, policy analyst, entrepreneur, nation-builder, and humanitarian, whose remarkable life of service continues to inspire Nigerians across all walks of life.
The solemn gathering brought together family members, friends, associates, government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, development partners, media practitioners, and well-wishers to celebrate the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of a man whose immense contributions to Nigeria’s economic development, public policy, agriculture, industrial transformation, and community advancement have left an indelible mark on the nation.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the National Coordinating Committee, Prof. Nick Ezeh, described the Service of Songs as a moment of remembrance, thanksgiving, and celebration of a life dedicated to excellence, integrity, compassion, and selfless service.
According to him, the event was not only an opportunity to mourn Dr. Okengwu’s passing but also to celebrate his outstanding achievements and stand in solidarity with his wife, Mrs. Jimurua Ijeoma Okengwu, their children, and the entire Okengwu family during this period of bereavement.
The programme featured scripture readings from Psalm 46:1–3 and John 14:1–6, offering words of hope, comfort, and assurance of God’s eternal promises.
Dr. Emeka Flemin Okengwu was born on 1 January 1964 in Nsukka, Enugu State, hailed from Umuoriehi, Isingwu Town, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Throughout his distinguished career, he earned international recognition as a respected development economist, policy strategist, entrepreneur, and public affairs commentator.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Anthill Concepts Limited and the pioneer Trustee/Chief Executive Officer of the Confluence of Savannah Peoples Foundation, he championed initiatives in poverty alleviation, renewable energy, agricultural development, industrialisation, environmental sustainability, and economic reforms.
His expertise made him a regular analyst on national television platforms, including NTA, Channels Television, Arise News, and other leading media organisations, where he simplified complex economic issues and consistently advocated sound fiscal management, transparency, and sustainable national development.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Okengwu was widely respected as a devoted Christian, community leader, mentor, philanthropist, traditional title holder, and passionate advocate for national progress. His unwavering commitment to humanity, mentorship, and public service earned him admiration across Nigeria and beyond.
Tributes delivered during the Service of Songs reflected on his exceptional contributions to public policy, entrepreneurship, economic development, governance, institutional reforms, and the countless lives he impacted through mentorship, visionary leadership, and humanitarian service.
Speaking on behalf of the National Coordinating Committee, Dr. Bitrus Pogu expressed profound appreciation to the various planning committees, volunteers, media organisations, family members, friends, and associates whose dedication over several weeks ensured the successful organisation of the funeral activities.
He particularly commended the leadership of Prof. Nick Ezeh for his exemplary coordination and unwavering commitment throughout the planning process.
Delivering the family’s vote of thanks, Mr. Ugonna Okengwu, son of the deceased, expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone who stood by the family through prayers, visits, words of encouragement, and generous support. He appealed to his father’s friends and associates to continue extending their guidance and support to the family, assuring them that the enduring values of honesty, humility, compassion, diligence, and selfless service exemplified by their father would continue to guide his children.
The family announced that the final funeral rites and interment of Dr. Emeka Flemin Okengwu will take place on Friday, 14 August 2026, at Umuoriehi, Isingwu Town, Abia State, where family members, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers will once again gather to bid farewell to an exceptional patriot and distinguished son of Nigeria.

Dr. Philip Ebrogeh Ndiomu – Former Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
Senator Nkechi Nwaogu – Two-time Senator, former Member of the House of Representatives, and former Pro-Chancellor, University of Calabar.
Dr. Ike Neliaku – President, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
Dr. Tanko Yunusa – National Coordinator, Obedient Movement.
Dr. Emeka Agbasi – Managing Director, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Hon. Obi Aguocha – Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency.
Dr. Okey Akobundu – Institute of Housing Estate.
Though his earthly journey has ended, Dr. Emeka Flemin Okengwu’s legacy of visionary leadership, intellectual excellence, integrity, nation-building, and unwavering commitment to humanity will continue to inspire present and future generations.
