SUSPICIOUS MOVES TO FORGE RECEIPTS/ID CARDS FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Capital Territory members has called for the disqualification of 2 members of the credentials committee that are nominated for the forthcoming triennial delegate conference, scheduled to hold on the 4th December, 2024.
This was disclosed in a petition by aggrieved members from various chapels, dated 1st of November, 2024, addressed NUJ National President, alleged that Mr.Sola Akingboye, who is a publisher and Editor -in-Chief, and Peter Asemokhai, are not qualified to be part of the credentials committee.
It is on record that Mr Peter Asemokhai who wants to lead the credentials committee, has never for once attended the NUJ congress with no substantive proves of paying his check-up dues as a member.
Additionally, there are indications that the secretary of the council is allegedly planning to forge receipts and ID cards for mischievous acts.

Following the petition raised by members from various chapels, the 2 names mentioned above are in breach of Article 3 Sub Section 3(b) and the Article 4 Sub Section (2a)(2b) and 5a(9a). One of the petitioners, alleged that Mr, Akingboye’s status as a publisher of Regent Africa Times, is not qualified to be part of the umpires.
Breaching this section of the act, tends to dample the image and integrity of the NUJ’s credibility for the electoral process.
The membership of the credentials committee, is in flagrant contravenes Article 3(b),(d) where Mr.Akingboye, the petition agreed is even in deficit of the basic requirements of the constitution as stipulated in Article 4 sub section (2a), (2b) and 5A (9e) which states that (2a), A member shall be disqualified from acting as a delegate or representative of a chapel at any meeting of the union in any other manner if checks-up and practicing fees have not been fully paid.
In this regard, the nomination of Mr. Akingboye and Mr. Peter Asemokhai, therefore contravenes the provisions of Article 6 sub section 7e and 7f which stipulates that 7e only members who have fully paid their checks-up dues and practicing or professional fees and are certified shall be considered to be part of good financial standing.
