The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) has called on experts and stakeholders to join in the league to sensitize the general public on the importance and ways of how older persons should be treated with dignity and respect.
The Director General, National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Emem Omokaro made this advocacy while addressing delegates from NAIDCARE during a courtesy visit at the Head Office of NSCC.
She said that NSCC is dedicated to developing support networks to ensure that older persons are valued for their contributions to society.
Omokaro, added that in an effort to improve the well-being and integrate older persons into productive ventures and support, NSCC has been able to collaborate with relevant stakeholders such as: Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Demential Society of Nigeria, National Health Insurance Authority, National Rehabilitation Therapists Registration Board, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Legal Aids Council, etc in delivering it’s mandate.
While calling for collaborative support, the Director General, NSCC implore the states and local government to domesticate and implement the National Plan of Action of Ageing and the Strategic Road Map on Ageing at their various levels.
She however, added that for the first time in Nigeria, through collaborations and support networks, the centre was able to have Quality Assurance Accreditation System on Geriatric Care which will help to create national policy guidelines and standard operating procedures for providing quality health care service to older persons across the nation.
Emem, uses this medium to encourage delegates from the NAIDCARE to join NSCC’s team to have a solid delivery system for healthy ageing. In this bid, Emem Omokaro said that NSCC has concluded the need assessment in 6 states and 9 local government areas.
Earlier in his speech, the Executive Secretary, NAID Care, James Utodio, said that we pride ourselves in providing quality care to those in need of support in any way we possibly can. He, however, cited the efforts made so far to sensitise and collaborate with corporate and private organisations in providing a range of care and support services to people for a better well being.
He also emphasised that with a mutual collaboration towards improving the quality of life and well-being of older persons, NAIDCARE has identified that depression can be a form of neglect from friends and family, which causes Elder Abuse.
