NO MEANINGFUL DEVELOPMENT CAN TAKE PLACE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Alh. Mahmuda Mamman in a meeting with the African French Development recently, acknowledged that there are lots of challenging factors in the Nigeria Power Sector and hopes that effective support and collaboration will be able to increase and deliver electricity.

He noted that Power is the bedrock for development and without electricity, there is no meaningful development that is going to take place.

The meeting with the African French Development had its members, Mr. Diarra, Juliato Fellez and Zainab Datti in attendance.

Diarra in his speech established that through Financial Support, Technical expertise and collaboration with Nigeria Stakeholders, AFD aims to foster a Power Sector transformation that aligns with Nigeria’s “Nationally Determined Contribution”.

He revealed that AFD is set to achieve
“Deep Carbonization Pathway Projects with key objectives as
*Pathway development*, *Capacity Building* and *Socio-economic Integration*.

He maintained also, that the AFD envisions a Power Sector that is a catalyst for Nigeria’s decarbonization journey by 2030 which includes,” achieving a significant increase in the share of renewables in Nigeria’s Power mix; Ensuring universal access to electricity powered predominantly by clean energy and Establishing a modernized , efficient and resilient grid capable of integrating renewable energy.

He further stated that the key objectives is being identified as strategies which will position Nigeria as a regional leader in sustainable energy development while supporting it’s economic growth and environmental sustainability goals.

He explained that what African French Development Agency is doing , aligns with its roles in the Power Sector, which includes, “Promoting Renewable Energy Development, Energy Efficiency and Grid modernization, Strengthening of Policy Framework, Capacity Building and Technology Transfer and Financing Green Energy Project.

In her vote of thanks, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics , Mrs. Babalola expressed satisfaction and hinted that the National Council on Power in its forthcoming retreat will be coming up with Policy frameworks which will help strengthen the Power Sector.
