A coalition of concerned citizens and stakeholders have issued a strong call to the Senate to confirm Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Despite the President’s nomination, the confirmation has been unduly delayed, sparking concerns about the motivations behind the hold-up.

The Spokesperson of the South-South Guardian Forum(SSGF), Comr. Andrew Odigwe, made this known today during a street protest in Port-Harcourt, River State.

“We, the citizens of Nigeria, demand that the Senate act swiftly to confirm Engr. Ramat as NERC Chairman. The delay is unjustifiable and raises suspicions about the intentions of those behind it” Comr. Andrew said.

The Spokesperson (SSGF), said that citizens are urging the Senate to respect the democratic process and allow Engr. Ramat to take office, bringing his expertise and experience to bear on the nation’s electricity sector. They argue that the delay is not only unconstitutional but also detrimental to the nation’s economic growth and development.

They argue that his wealth of experience and expertise in the field of electricity would be invaluable in addressing the challenges facing the sector.

The group uses this medium to call on all Nigerians to join them in demanding for the confirmation of Engr. Ramat as NERC Chairman, saying that his leadership would bring much-needed reforms and progress to the electricity sector.

We call on the Senate to prioritize the nation’s interests without further delay,” the group emphasized.

The citizens are demanding that the Senate:

  • For the confirmation of Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as NERC Chairman
  • Respect the democratic process.
  • Prioritize the nation’s interests over personal or political interests
